On or about 31 Dec 2021, under s 10 of the Revised Edition of the Laws Act 1983, the Law Revision Commission has published a revised edition of the following Acts:
- Companies Act 1967
- Economic Expansion Incentives (Relief from Income Tax) Act 1967
- Estate Duty Act 1929
- Goods and Services Tax Act 1993
- Goods and Services Tax Voucher Fund Act 2012
- Income Tax Act 1947
- Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore Act 1992
- Payroll Tax Act 1965
- Property Tax Act 1960
- Stamp Duties Act 1929.
The Revised Edition of the Laws (Section 7) Order 2021 declares that the 2020 Revised Edition of the above Acts comes into force on 31 December 2021.
The Revised Edition of the Laws (Section 11(3)) Order 2021 declares that with effect from 31 December 2021, the 2021 Revised Edition of the Stamp Duties Act 1929 is the sole and only proper law of Singapore in respect of that Act.
Following the completion of a universal revision of Singapore’s Acts of Parliament by the Law Revision Commission and Attorney-General’s Chambers (“AGC”), the revisions have made changes in two key respects:
Names of Acts have changed: There are no more chapter numbers, and the year of the revised edition is no longer necessary. The edition number is needed only when referring to a specific historical version of the Act.
Renumbered provisions: While the Companies Act 1967 and Penal Code 1872 at the section level has not renumbered; Acts such as the Financial Advisers Act 2001 and Income Tax Act 1947 have been renumbered.
