IRAS has completed over 2,800 GST audits across various industries for the 2024/2025 period, resulting in the recovery of $205 million in taxes and penalties.
IRAS has published selected audit cases and details of its compliance programmes on its website. Key issues include:
- Failure to display GST-inclusive prices
- Involvement in missing trader fraud (non-genuine input tax claims and corresponding zero-rated supplies)
- Incorrect input tax claims on imports belonging to overseas related companies
- Non-compliance with new GST treatment (effective 1 January 2022) for the supply of media sales (advertising space)
- Inadequate record keeping and failure to account for GST on the lease of furniture and fittings
